Many people get too hung up on
their beliefs and sabotage their law of attraction work. In order to really
take control of your life, you need a skeptical attitude and the ability to
destroy the beliefs that need destroying and to prop up the things that need
elevation in your. So, this article will help you with understand and organize
your beliefs so that you can kick them to the curb, morph them, or appreciate
them for all their wonder.
First, beliefs are thoughts. Many
people confuse beliefs and knowledge. Beliefs are not knowledge, they're
thoughts-well justified as they may be. Consider it like this: in science,
there is a distinction between a law and a theory. A law is something that is
irrefutable, like the law of conservation of energy; however, a theory is
something that is scientifically justifiable, but is ultimately impossible to
fully prove. In other words, a law is deductive (it must be true) and a theory
is inductive (it's very likely that it's true). Knowledge is like a law: if you
know something, it's absolutely true. And a belief is a theory: you think it's
true. So, this is to say that the best way to approach your thoughts is as if
they're all beliefs and remember that a belief is a thought you hold onto-and
no matter how long you've had it, if it's false, it's false.
Second, beliefs/thoughts affect
your life (of course, it works both ways: beliefs and life affect each other,
but that's beyond the point here). What do I mean by this? Well, one major
belief that I see in all of my work, regardless of the tradition, is the belief
that "I'm just the kind of person who... " For instance, I know quite
a few people who waste a large portion of time looking at things like cat
pictures and make excuses like, "I'm a Redditer" or "those
pictures make me happy" (read: I'm a depressed person who needs cute
pick-me-ups to make it through my day), etc. (Though, if you enjoy it, is it
wasting time? That's something for you to decide... Just an example because I
know so many people who could do something much better with their time in my
opinion; however, I don't have to live their life-or I'd do it differently, of
course) And on a larger scale, I see lonely people tell themselves, "I'm
just the kind of person who deserves to be alone". I once met a mean, rude
person who told me "I'm just a negative person-and if people want to know
me, they have to deal with it; it's no different than being positive, I have to
deal with that"; however, "I'm just a negative person" is about
as frequent a use of this belief as "I'm not a math person" or
"I'm just stupid". So, my point here, buried as it is, is that
beliefs are things that affect your life: if you believe you can't do math, you
live your life as if you can't do math; if you believe you're just destined to
be alone, you live a hermit's life; etc. And in all these, you likely suffer
through the running of this belief in the same way that a person running a more
positive belief would enjoy their day.
Third, now that you're aware 1)
that beliefs are thoughts you repeatedly think about (and likely just accept as
true) and 2) these beliefs affect your life, it's time that you consider what
you don't like about your life. Now, consider the beliefs that structure these
things that you don't like. For instance, if you hate your job, but don't quit,
you likely have the financial imperative of needing money to pay your bills
driving you to stay in a position of misery out of fear. This would be related
to other beliefs like "it's hard to get a job in this economy",
"I'm not really that impressive on paper anyway", "I don't
really deserve better", "all jobs I have are going to be this
miserable", "I could never succeed working for myself"... So, in
this case you dislike your job and desire a new job; however, your beliefs
(i.e. your fears and self-doubt) work as an anchor to hold you in the position
that makes you miserable. And as such, you desire both to have a new job and to
stay put. Though you could have either, you chose the one you don't want,
negating the other choice, and completely ignoring the third option: keep your
current job while looking for a new job that you'll really like. In summation,
if you can remember your thoughts aren't true just because you believe them,
but that holding them affects your life, you can investigate your thoughts and
remove the ones you don't want.
